Programme Introduction

The China Studies (CS) & International Organizations and Global Governance (IOGG) Double Major Programme (DMP) is a pioneering collaboration between The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHKSZ) in the Humanities and Social Science disciplines. Students admitted by CUHK will pursue the Bachelor of Arts in China Studies as their first major and take International Organizations and Global Governance as their second major.

In this interdisciplinary programme, students will develop a holistic understanding of China’s global presence, impact, and interactions, and at the same time, acquire analytical tools on international organizations and global governance, grounded in various disciplines, including area studies, public policy, international relations, and political economy. They will attend classes and participate in learning and research activities at both the Hong Kong campus and Shenzhen campus, spending 2 years in CUHK and 2 years in CUHK(SZ).

By employing rigorous humanities and social science research methods and approaches, this programme aims at fostering the development of high-calibre talents capable of addressing the dynamic global changes of today. Students graduated from this programme will be well-positioned to fulfil future leadership roles, connecting China with the rest of the world.

Craft Your Path

Our programme takes an interdisciplinary approach to guide students to pursue their own paths of investigation into the myriad aspects of China’s development in the global context and China’s interactions with international organizations and global governance. The programme emphasizes the training of interdisciplinary analytical skills, cross-cultural communications skills, global outlook, systematic and critical thinking, socio-cultural immersion, on-the-ground research, as well as an exchange of views among a distinctive mix of learners and faculty from Chinese societies and from around the world. We encourage our students to delve deeply into China affairs on the global stage, pursue research on specific cases, and undertake fieldwork or internships to “learn by seeing and doing”. Primarily taught in English, the programme stresses improvement in bi-lingual or multi-lingual learning and cross-cultural communication capabilities in a global context. Students in our programmes will

  • Complete two complementary majors in one degree
  • Learn across CUHK and CUHK(SZ) campuses
  • Gain first-hand exposure to the Greater Bay Area development through experiential learning opportunities
  • Broaden intellectual horizons through interdisciplinary learning with a global mindset
  • Develop advanced research and communication skills
  • Establish strong networks across Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland and beyond

Career Prospects

Students of our programme have a wide range of exciting career opportunities ahead of them, including public policy, international affairs, business, finance, media, academic research, education, and culture management. They are ready to pursue careers in government and public organizations, international organizations, policy think tanks, financial institutions, multinational corporations, consulting firms, media and public relations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), cultural organizations, educational institutions and academia. With exposures in both Hong Kong and Shenzhen, our students are well positioned to pursue career opportunities in the global networks of China’s Greater Bay Area.

Through our double major programme, our students will gain a solid foundation of academic knowledge and practical skills, positioning them for a successful future in their chosen career paths. Regardless of their interests and career goals, this programme offers a broad and exciting range of opportunities for personal and professional growth. Join us and embark on a transformative educational journey that will shape your future and open doors to diverse and rewarding career prospects.
