Nurses are dedicated to providing quality patient care and promoting public health. Nurses nowadays not only have to undergo technologically advanced and sophisticated training but also respond to the rapidly changing health care environment.
The Nethersole School of Nursing at CUHK has been admitting enthusiastic students who are committed to serving in the health care field since its inception in 1991.
CUHK’s nursing programme is known for its professional education and academic rigour. To prepare students for a successful nursing career, the programme provides a comprehensive range of courses, including biological and behavioural sciences, health promotion and maintenance, nursing research and information technology.

Craft Your Path
This is a five-year, full-time, credit-based honours programme leading to the award of a Bachelor of Nursing degree from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Depending on previous qualifications obtained, students may be considered for admission with Advanced Standing.
The programme prepares students for registration as general registered nurses with the Nursing Council of Hong Kong. The main subjects of study include biological and behavioural sciences, health promotion and maintenance, nursing practice and theory, nursing research and information technology. Students also gain experience in the care of clients in both the hospital and community settings.
Integrated Theoretical and Experiential Learning
The students have extensive opportunities to practise in a wide variety of hospital and community settings to apply their nursing knowledge under the supervision of School lecturers and over 1,900 clinical mentors.
Subsidised Overseas Exchange
The overseas exchange programme is subsidised by the School to enable students to visit renowned universities and hospitals in mainland China, the UK, the US, Australia, Japan, South Korea, etc.
Unique Schemes to Prepare Research Talent
Students enrolled in the Guided Research Scheme and Pre-PhD Preparation Scheme take courses at the postgraduate level in the Summer Term to build up their capacity for academic research.
A Wide Range of Elective Courses
An introductory briefing of the elective courses will be provided to help students select elective course according to their preferences and interests.
Career Prospects
Most of our graduates secure nursing jobs in hospitals. According to our 2022/23 graduate survey, more than 90% of our graduates are working in public hospitals or private settings, with a variety of specialties.
