Programme Introduction
Explore the Path from Hand-made to Automation
Combining hands-on discovery and analysis allows the students to develop creative solutions to life and engineering problems after completing the Mechanical and Automation Engineering (MAEGN) programme at CUHK.
The MAEGN programme emphasizes the impact of modern automation technologies on current and future developments in the field of mechanical engineering, allowing students to establish a solid foundation in the core principles of mechanical and automation engineering.
The programme also stresses a balanced curriculum in both basic theory and hands-on practice, covering subject areas as mechanics and materials, thermodynamics, mechanical design, manufacturing processes, mechatronics and robotics. Exploring mechanics and materials gives the students a deep understanding of how objects and materials behave under different forces and loads. Studying thermodynamics enables the students to grasp the principles of energy transfer, and studying mechanical design empowers them to create innovative solutions. Furthermore, the students delve into the interdisciplinary fields of robotics and automation systems, in which they learn about the design and operation of intelligent machines, automated systems and robotics.
The programme also offers a range of other learning opportunities to enhance the educational journey of the students, such as exchanges, internships, work-study programmes, research projects and competitions.
Craft Your Path
The curriculum covers fundamental knowledge in the areas of mechanical and automation engineering, including mechanics and materials, thermodynamics, control, manufacturing and electronics. Students can pursue more in-depth knowledge in the subjects of their choice, such as computer-aided design and graphics, robotics, mechatronics, intelligent systems, engineering optimization and MEMS. Students may choose to specialize in one of the following three streams:
- Design and Manufacturing
- Mechatronics
- Robotics and Automation
Dual Degree Option
Students can pursue the Mechanical and Automation Engineering-Integrated Business Administration double-degree programme.
Career Prospects
MAEGN graduates possess professional skills and knowledge to pursue a wide range of job opportunities across various industries.
Our graduates have secured jobs as mechanical engineers, production engineers, control engineers, design engineers, process engineers, maintenance engineers, systems managers, etc.
Employers include CLP Holdings Limited, The Hongkong Electric Company, ATAL Engineering Limited, Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Company Limited, Swire Properties Limited, Schneider Electric (Hong Kong) Limited, Hong Kong Aero Engine Services Limited, MTR Corporation Limited, and the Electric and Mechanical Services Department of the HKSAR Government.
