Programme Introduction

Personalised Medical Curriculum Designed by You

The six-year full-time MBChB programme has a unique SMART medical curriculum, allowing us to nurture competent and compassionate doctors who are amply qualified both to meet the challenges of modern-day healthcare and to serve the community with clinical excellence and passion.

The SMART curriculum:

  • Student-centred
  • Mentorship-based
  • Assured knowledge acquisition
  • Robust clinical teaching
  • Teaching ethics and professionalism

Students admitted on the basis of university entrance examinations are required to complete six years of study to qualify for the degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB). Students with outstanding academic performance are also given the option of admission to Dynamic Year 2 (DY2) and an intercalated enrichment year. This medicine programme is a comprehensive and stand-alone programme, and exemptions from the University Core Requirements and faculty packages are granted to outstanding students.

Tomorrow’s Physician Leaders

In addition to the core MBChB curriculum, students admitted to the Global Physician-Leadership Stream (MBChB-GPS) attend leadership skills training courses to nourish global perspectives and leadership competencies and to prepare them to become future physician leaders in health policy, education, research or other promising fields in medical and health sciences.

GPS training emphasises the following:

  • Professional medical training with the MBChB curriculum
  • International and inter-professional exposure through overseas exchanges, internships and graduate studies
  • Leadership skills in research, humanitarian and social services, and public health administration
  • Enhanced Academic Mentorship

Career Prospects

After the successful completion of a one-year internship in an approved hospital in Hong Kong, medical graduates become registered medical practitioners, and subsequently specialists after another four to six years of specialty training. Some may opt for an alternative path by joining academia or becoming a clinician-scientist, combining clinical practice with medical education and scientific research to advance medical development and improve patient care.
