Grooming Young Gerontology Professionals
The Bachelor of Science in Gerontology Programme is a University Grants Committee-funded two-year, full-time, credit-based, articulated honours programme. The programme equips students with the following well-sought-after capacities: planning for care for older people to reduce the burden on society; optimising policies; coordinating services to improve efficiency; improving financial strategies; protecting the most vulnerable group from infections; strengthening the infection-control capacity of service facilities for older adults, based on knowledge of infectious diseases; steering quality service innovation for older adults; scientifically innovating services; strengthening communication among practitioners; providing high-quality, personalised services; comforting older adults in regard to the fear of dying; guiding older adults with terminal illness and their relatives with knowledge and skills; and designing appropriate hospice care plans.
Craft Your Path
The BSc in Gerontology Programme offers a comprehensive learning path. Year 1 focuses on Social Perspectives on Ageing, Care of Older Adults, Public Health Foundation and Tools, providing students with a strong foundation in gerontology.
In Year 2, the students engage in the Gerontological Practicum, gaining valuable hands-on experience in the field. This practical component allows them to apply their knowledge and skills in real-world settings, preparing them for a successful career in service planning, coordination and care management for older adults.

Career Prospects
Graduates can pursue a career in a wide range of social and health care settings, providing active, long-term care services for older adults. They can start their career as a multi-skilled practitioner in gerontological care and take up key roles in coordinating inter-disciplinary care, planning and implementing evidence-based care models (such as care management, empowerment programmes, telecare and transitional care), and performing service administration, evaluation and reengineering. They can also advance to higher-management levels after accumulating sufficient work experience.
