Introduction Title:  Architecturally Speaking

Together with experienced practitioners and visiting scholars from around the world, our faculty members and students explore a range of architectural investigations, expand design know-how, and confront the increasing challenges of the built environment in Hong Kong, China and Asia. The School’s philosophy of design excellence integrates professional manipulation of form and imaginative space, as well as the ability to generate inspiration from a broad body of information.

Craft Your Path

The accredited professional architecture curriculum includes design studios, theory, history, technology, visual communication and professional practice, with design studios the central focus of instruction. Collaboration thrives in six undergraduate studios, 12 graduate studios and diverse courses. The students explore today’s most effective design approaches with a leading-edge faculty that has a broad range of expertise and experience.

Career Prospects

For 30 years, the School of Architecture has educated committed individuals who have subsequently assumed leadership roles in shaping the built environment. The graduates form a unique community with diverse educational backgrounds, profession collaboration and career paths.

Our alumni have attained success in different fields over the past 10 years:

  • Industry Sector: Approximately 65% of our graduates enter the industry, where they excel in design, management, business and entrepreneurship.
  • Emerging Industry Sectors: Another 15% of graduates thrived in shaping new industries, like scripting, AI, eco-tourism and rural development.
  • Community Service and Government: About 15% of graduates work on social improvement and policy-making initiatives.
  • Postgraduate Studies: About 15% of graduates pursue specialised fields through advanced studies.

Employers include governmental institutions, such as the HKSAR Architectural Services Department, the Urban Renewal Authority and the Buildings Department, world leading design companies, like Herzog & de Meuron Architekten, OMA, BIG, GMP and MAD, emerging AI giants, such as SenseTime, and major local real estate developers, such as MTRC.

The programme offers learning opportunities beyond the classroom, including global exchanges, career workshops, internships and work in overseas studios. The student experience is further enriched by the School’s renowned lecture and public programme series, exhibitions and publications, and the resources available across allied universities and alumni associations.
