Explore an Exciting Journey in Our Bachelor of Laws Programme
Our Bachelor of Laws (LLB) programme provides world-class academic and professional education in law. Students learn the rules and values underpinning the law and its role in structuring society through extensive reading, thinking, writing, discussing and debating. Our approach to legal education emphasises persuasion, problem solving, analysing complex issues, dispute management and reflecting on competing viewpoints. The legal knowledge and critical thinking skills you gain will be with you for the rest of your life and will allow you to be successful at the highest level in the legal field or any other professional path you choose, whether in Hong Kong or elsewhere around the world.
Craft Your Path
Our LLB programme is selective, engaging and transformative. We provide a liberal education in the theory and practice of law at the level of rigour appropriate to an undergraduate programme of study. Our LLB programme is designed for critical and creative thinkers who are ready to become leaders in law or related fields, who want to be successful in the increasingly globalised legal arena, and who are dedicated to serving society.
Double-Degree Study Options
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Double Degree Programmes at CUHK
Students can register for one of the following double-degree options towards the end of their first year of studies:
(i) LLB with a Bachelor of Arts in Translation
(ii) LLB with a Bachelor of Social Science in Sociology
- Master of Laws (LLM) Programme at the Dickson Poon School of Law of King’s College London
CUHK LAW offers a joint study option in partnership with King’s College London (KCL), in which students may enrol in KCL’s Master of Laws (LLM) Programme in their fourth year. This provides students with an opportunity to obtain both an undergraduate degree (LLB from CUHK) and a postgraduate degree (LLM from KCL) in four years.
After completing our LLB program, you will satisfy one of the admission requirements for the Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL) in Hong Kong. In recent years, on average, 80% of CUHK LLB graduates who sought a place in the PCLL program were successful. You are eligible for admission as a Solicitor or Barrister of the High Court of Hong Kong after completing the PCLL, and a training contract (2 years) or pupillage (1 year). Our LLB graduates are well equipped to be legal practitioners or leaders in other fields, such as commerce, industry, government, community service, academia and media.
Employers include major international law firms (e.g., Allen & Overy, Baker McKenzie, Clifford Chance, Deacons, DLA Piper, Herbert Smith Freehills, Hogan Lovells, King & Wood Mallesons, Linklaters, Morrison Foerster and Norton Rose Fulbright), the Hong Kong Department of Justice, and major corporations.
The CUHK LLB programme is competitive and prestigious, providing students with the skills, credentials and connections necessary to achieve success in the legal profession and beyond.
